IMG_6070Finally! That Penderyn sampler sat on my shelf for a while, waiting for the right time to try these delicacies from foreign and exotic WALES! My sister brought them back from her scholastic travels to the land of the Red Dragon (no, not China, Wales. Try to keep up), like last year when she brought us the Peated.

I’m actually glad I waited. I needed to improve my palette a bit, gain a better appreciation of wine-casked whiskies. It was worth the wait, here’s what we thought:

smell
Matt – nice, like a reisling
Simon – clover or heather, warm wood, old wood. fruit
Ryan – floral, lavender, pressed cafe, fresh varnish, raisins

neat
Matt – sweet, caramel, misty, moss
Simon – port, clay
Ryan – apricot, dried fruit

splash
Matt – softens, maple tree sap
Simon – wood comes forward
Ryan – n/a

Penderyn Sherrywood Single Malt Welsh Whisky – 46% 50ml – ??? – Wales

Try it? Yes! Buy it? If you can find it.
