Grabbed on a dash back across the border last summer, a tiny little premixed cocktail. Rye whiskey and rock candy, Pennsylvania honey and Florida oranges: Hochstadter’s Slow & Low Rock & Rye rolls a lot of US heritage & terroir into one little product (altho according to their website you can buy this by the bottle). Look for the Union label, and check out their zine. Here’s what we thought:
nose
Dan – nectarine/stonefruit, lime, pineapple juice
Simon – citrus, glue, honey perfume
taste
Dan – honey dew melon, line, lychee candies from the pho place
Simon – orange candies, rough whisky
finish
Dan – back of the tongue burn
Simon – burn in the chest
splashed with seltzer
Simon – like an adult orange soda
overall
Dan – 8.5/10
Simon – 7.1/10
Hochstadter’s Slow & Low Rock & Rye – 42% 100ml – $4.99 – Pennsylvania
Try it? Definitely. Buy it? If you can find it.
