IMG_7778Tomatin 15y!

The second review of Tomatin month is their 15y expression. Where the other two are aged in sherry barrels, this bottle is aged in standard scotch whisky barrels made from American oak.

During the review of the 12y I went off on a bit of a tangent about brand loyalty and community and stuff. On Twitter, Tomatin got in touch to tell us to check out their community site and hashtag. There’s… not much there yet, so I guess we’re still early in the campaign. There’s a bunch of #tomatinlife tweets from a couple years ago that seem to be a little more like country kids lamenting country life. I can recognize it from doing it for years. Any, watch these spaces to see more of how the distillery

Of note, this expression is in the Archive section of Tomatin’s website, and I can’t find it for sale anywhere, so I think that means it’s no longer available. That is a real shame. Here’s what we thought:

colour
Dan – light leather brown
Simon – very light apple juice

nose
Dan – soft flora, fennel, salt taffy
Simon – sweet oak, fake grape

neat
Dan – straight forward woody spiced molasses
Simon – salt, slight burn, simple and subtle, archetype highland scotch

finish
Dan – clean, caramel
Simon – short, wood. pleasant

splash
Dan – nose & smooth body
Simon – remains great, very nice

overall – a fantastic example of the best of what a highland scotch can offer
Dan – 9.2/10
Simon – 8.4/10

Tomatin 15y – 43% 50ml – ?? – Highlands

Try it? Yes! Buy it? Yes.
