Sleeman Sparkling Ale with Stephanie

Another holiday bottle where you pay more for extra packaging! It’s okay – I’m using it as a riser for my scotch display back row now.

Sleeman Sparkling Ale was released to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the brewery. That’s all the website has to say, aside form calling it “brilliantly filtered” and I don’t really know what that is supposed to mean. I’ve liked plenty of Sleeman in the past but not so much in the last decade, and this one holds to that pattern. Here’s what we thought:

nose
Simon – malt, cherry, chocolate
Steph – plum & xmas pudding

taste
Simon – lighter than expected, pumpernickel bread, watered down diet coke
Steph – like heavy champagne w molasses

finish
Simon – small yeast, lingering coat, kind of like aspartame
Steph – burnt caramel corn, short

overall
Simon – 5/10
Steph – 5/10

Sleeman Sparkling Ale – 6.2% 750ml – $9.95 – Ontario

Try it? Maybe. Buy it? No.
