Long-time loyal readers or new binge-reading transients will recognize the Muskoka Winter Beard Double Chocolate Cranberry Stout as one of my seasonal favourites. This holiday pause was a little disappointing in terms of interesting offerings at the LCBO (I passed on both the Glenlivet and Innis & Gunn samplers because in one case, eighty bucks for exactly one new thing and in the other, nothing new at all), so it was good to take another look.
This is a Round 2, so I won’t bother with the same details over again. Here’s what we thought:
smell
Davey – “foggy” chocolate
Simon – dark chocolate, plum, cream
taste
Davey – tart chocolate, smooth
Simon – caramel & chocolate, grains, slightly bitter
finish
Davey – mild bitter cocoa
Simon – bitter & sweet, baker’s chocolate
Muskoka Winter Beard Double Chocolate Cranberry Stout – 8% 750ml – $13.95 – Ontario
Try it? Yes! Buy it! well.. yes.. but it STILL costs too damn much.
