Bourbon-aged beer – truly it is a promise of great taste.
This is the Nickel Brook Kentucky Bastard Imperial Stout, a nice little post-New Year’s cask aged beer. It’s aged in unspecified Kentucky bourbon barrels for an unspecified amount of time. And for some reason there’s a planetary model of an atom on the front, so there may be some unspecified science going on here. If you see something, say something.
Nickel Brook started up in Burlington in 2005, out of the Better Bitters Brewing Company. All this info is available on their website, but there’s not much else online to find. And we’ve explained what an imperial stout is before, so this will be a short post. Here’s what we thought:
smell
Dan – industrial bathroom air freshner
Simon – chocolate, Beyond the Pale Mak’r Darkness
taste
Dan – coffee, black licorice, caramel
Simon – dark root vegetable, candied apple, very thick
Nickel Brook Kentucky Bastard Imperial Stout – 10% 750ml – $12.95 – Ontario
Try it? Sure! Buy it? No, way too expensive
