A quick little review this week, folks, and one that is probably long overdue.
Innis & Gunn Rum Finish: once, many years ago, I brushed this aside with an “I don’t like it”, largely because of its rum barrel aging and my distinct distaste for rum in general. I wasn’t being assumptive; I did try it and didn’t care for it enough to review it.
And I still don’t! But we’re reviewing it because it’s never not in the LCBO, and it was part of this year’s Holiday Sampler, and what the hell, can always use more reviews.
There’s not too much to say about this that we haven’t said in a dozen other Innis & Gunn reviews. This is a rare miss from Innis & Gunn for me, but Dan enjoyed it. Here’s what we thought:
colour
Dan – fountain cola/red
Simon – deep dark red brown
nose
Dan – slight cherry & coffee chocolate
Simon – sweeter end of innis & gunn, vine fruits
taste
Dan – starts sweet, gets a little dry with wood, coffee
Simon – darker & sweeter than regular i&g a little too sweet
finish
Dan – coffee bitterness
Simon – lingering sugar
overall
Dan – 7.5/10
Simon – 6/10
Innis & Gunn Rum Finish – 6.8% 330ml – $3.30 – Scotland
Try it or buy it? Dan says yes to both, I say no to either.
