Awesome! Surprise scotch! One of Steph’s friends picked this up in the home country and brought it back for us. Arran is one of the islands off western Scotland, in the same neighbor hood as Skye (Talisker), Islay and Jura, but closer to shore. I don’t know if it was psychosomatic but knowing that made its taste land (for me) directly between an Islay and a mainland scotch. Quite tasty, here’s what we thought:
smell
Steph – light smell, no heavy scotch, vanilla, caramel, dessert
Simon – almost sherried smell, but not quite, citrus rind
neat
Steph – citrus, spice, nutmeg, allspice
Simon – oak definitely, lighter smoke, dryer peat smell, ontario forest on a hot summer day
splash
Steph – very drinkable with a splash, citrus sweet
Simon – smooths out any burn elements, Bubblicious (later in the taste), sweetness
The Arran Malt 10y – 46% 50ml – ??? – Islands
Try it? Yes. Buy it? Yes.
