Katherine found L’ile Noire while researching our little work/minibreak trip in La Belle Province. We had high hopes after our success at the Whisky Cafe, but it didn’t seem to be on the same level. The bar is on the second floor and in the middle of a blizzard no one seemed that concerned about clearing off the steps. But Montreal is a more laid-back city, so I guess if they slip c’est pas grande chose.
The prices are much more reasonable than at the Whisky Cafe, but the service wasn’t on par. The bar was much busier, but we sat at the bar and still weren’t all that impressed.
That said, if you know what you’re looking for, or prepared to do your research, you’ll pay less for the same glass. Like the Whisky Cafe, don’t go in expecting food – if you need starch to hold your liquor, there’s plenty of places up and down St-Denis to meet that need.
I’ll be back, and I’ll try more than I did this time, but I’ll have done my homework, and won’t bother sitting at the bar.
