So, not entirely sure this is actually a Round 2! or not. Looking at the other Dewar’s 12y review, that bottle says stuff like Ancestor’s Blend and True Scotch. This one doesn’t. It makes claims to smoothness the other does not, and the ethylated witticisms at the bottom are different, but both make Dewar’s standard claim to “500 awards”.
I did look for a comprehensive list of the 500 awards but couldn’t find one. I’m sure you can get a Master’s in something Scottish if you did the work but I’m not going to. Maybe for a better whisky.
Dewar’s parent company owns the distilleries for Aberfeldy, Aultmore, Craigellachie, Macduff, & Royal Brackla, some of which appear in the Whisky Advent set we’re working through as well, so look out for those. In the meantime, here’s what we thought:
nose
Dan – hot garbage, plastic
Simon – apple jolly rancher
Goran – citrus, bright
neat
Dan – better than it smell, dry, spicy, little wood, bit of caramel
Simon – apple rot
Goran – airy & sweet, light body
finish
Dan – short, bitter
Simon – high burn, vague vomit back
Goran – short, 1 dimensional
splash
Dan – salty, iodine
Simon – dried fruit
Goran – vanilla, stone fruit, apricot
overall
Dan – 5/10
Simon – 6/10
Goran – 7/10
Dewar’s 12y Scotch Blend – 40% 200ml – $ – Scotland
Try it? Nah. Buy it? No.
