Just a quick review – finally getting around to the beers from Iqaluit. Nunavut Brewing Company Frob Gold Strong Golden Ale – this one is pretty okay, if you think about all the extra effort that has to go into getting the stuff to make it. If you don’t, it’s still pretty okay.
The website is a little thin and the format’s broken on a few pages, and a lot of the sections are still coming soon, so I can’t tell you too much more about the beer than that they use water from the Sylvia Grinnell river, traditional fishing grounds for local Inuit.
All nitpicking aside, how often do you drink a beer from Baffin Island? Here’s what I thought:
nose – some hop, light caramel, molasses, orange
taste – exactly as it smells, slightly sweeter
finish – a little cloying
overall – can’t taste it’s 6.8 but can’t really taste much else either 6.5/10
Nunavut Brewing Company Frob Gold Strong Golden Ale – 6.8% 473ml – $ – Baffin Island, Nunavut
Try it? Definitely! Buy it? If you can.
