Innis & Gunn Secret Saison. A rare beer with a rare outcome from Innis & Gunn – an utter miss.
What’s a saison? It’s a kind of beer meant for “sessioning” (which I think just means “drink a bunch”) with local ingredients, low alcohol and a clean taste. This beer fails to achieve the last characteristic, unfortunately.
While the citrus elements are definitely present, the whole thing is sunk by too much yeast. Here’s what we thought:
nose
Julia – grapefruit, lemon
Simon – lighter, yeast, five alive, bread
neat
Julia – meh, extremely subtle
Simon – fruity, raddlery, not as much taste as smell
finish
Julia – malt, bread
Simon – yeast. gross texture & mouth feel
overall
Julia – 5/10
Simon 2/10
Innis & Gunn Secret Saison – 4.5% 330ml – $ – Scotland
Try it? No. Buy it? No.
